Chennai, 3rd October, 2011: Yamaha R15 One Make Race Championship, which started on 3rd June this year, came to a thrilling and exciting halt as the fifth and final leg of the league concluded at the Madras Motor Race Track, Chennai yesterday. The racing track was set abuzz with roaring excitement as hordes of racing fans turned up to witness the three day event. Yamaha had organized this championship as part of the National Motorcycle Racing Championship 2011 being organized by the Madras Motor Sports Club and approved by The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI). This year, Yamaha R15 One Make Race Championship was open to participation from both Yamaha and Non-Yamaha customers.
Displaying their biking skills, the bikers participated in two categories of races in round 5, namely the Novice and Open (Expert) category. In Race 1 of the Novice Category, Mr. S Madhan emerged as the winner while Mr. R Venkataraman and Mr. Gaurav Naidu took the 2nd and 3rd spot. The second race of the Novice category again saw Mr. S Madhan emerging as the winner while Mr. Vivek Mani and Mr. Gaurav Naidu assumed 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. In the open category the winner of the first race was Mr. D Dinesh Kumar, the first runner up was Mr. Shyam Shankar while Mr. M Sudhakar took the second runner up spot. In Race 2 of this category, Mr. Shyam Shankar won the first place with Mr. Sudhakar Kesavan and Mr. Arun J. Pillai taking the 2nd and 3rd spot.
Champions for the overall R15 One Make Race 2011 were as follows –
Expert Category: Mr. Shyam Shankar
Novice Category: Mr. S. Madhan
Three of the winners (Mr. S Madhan from Novice, Mr. Shyam Shankar and Mr. D. Dinesh Kumar from Expert category) will represent India Yamaha Motor at the Yamaha ASEAN Cup 2011 to be held in Thailand later this year.
Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Jun Nakata, Director – Sales and Marketing, India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. said, “We are very pleased with the excellent biking skills displayed by all the participants and would like to congratulate all the winners of the R15 One Make Race Championship 2011. This is definitely a great opportunity for them to showcase their talent at the ASEAN cup and I wish them all the very best. I would also like to thank all the participants who have contributed in making this event a huge success. “
The technology in YZF-R15 has percolated from R1 (Deltabox frame/Fuel Injection/6 speed gearbox/styling/Liquid Cooled 4V engine). Just like R1, it is light weight, has power on demand, besides having centralized mass, stopping power, aerodynamics, ergonomics and stability/rigidity, among others. It also has the controllability and maneuverability to maximize riding, cornering and braking performance.
Yamaha’s corporate culture has always given special importance to bike racing in India as a way of expressing the ‘Spirit of Challenge’ that it values so highly. Apart from the R15 One Make Race Championship, Yamaha also organized the Yamaha Riding Clinic earlier this year to give racing tips to biking enthusiasts. With these events, Yamaha aims to take the racing culture & spirit in India to the next level and plans to continue this championship as a valuable step for carrying forward the racing legacy in the country.
